DVD and VHS Tape Compatibility

General:

Hart Aviation Video releases, with very few exceptions, have digital video as the source material. Displayed from a DVD, the result is to preserve virtually all of the color and definition values of the original digital footage and will result in remarkable definition, color clarity and audio fidelity - greatly superior to VHS. Our DVD discs are encoded in the “World Standard”, a recent development that will permit our discs to be played on most modern players in the United States and in most parts of the world.

DVD discs intended for widespread distribution in great quantity are normally equipped with chapters and provide some degree of interaction capability with the viewer. At this time, discs provided by Hart Aviation Video Enterprises do not have such capabilities, but do have timing points encoded into the disc at 10 minute increments. Those points allow the user to step forward or back through the disc in 10 minute increments to access various parts of the program. The narrative provides timing marks from the digital master tape; when used in conjunction with the 10 minute increments, this provides a useful capability to access specific areas of the program.

The DVD protocol and player designs have undergone considerable change since the introduction of the format in 1996. Some older DVD players (manufactured before 2000) may not successfully play newer discs. In the U. S. and Canada, and any location in which NTSC is the television standard, a modern player and television set should provide outstanding results. If you are successfully playing recently produced NTSC discs, Hart Aviation Video Enterprises discs should also play without any problems.

Should you have playback problems with our discs and are successfully playing other recent commercial discs on the same DVD player/television set combination, please contact us at Hart Aviation Video Enterprises. Please provide the model number and manufacturer of the player and television display unit you are using, and also be sure to include your contact information.

Worldwide Compatibility:

Most modern DVD players distributed in non-NTSC areas of the world now have the capability to provide compatible output information when playing a DVD NTSC disc. If you are in an area that is not on the NTSC standard, before you order a disc from us, please be sure that the equipment combination you are using will successfully play back a recent DVD disc intended for distribution in the North American Market. The more recent the equipment you are using, the more likely that our discs will play without difficulty.

VHS Tape Compatibility:

In some cases, tape playback machines in non-NTSC areas can also play back NTSC tapes satisfactorily. Tape playback machines capable of playing a VHS NTSC tape and outputting successfully in PAL or Secam areas should be marked as having that capability. In such cases, VHS tape could be an appropriate choice. If you are not in an NTSC area, before ordering a VHS tape from us, we advise that you first verify that an NTSC VHS tape intended for the North American Market will play successfully on your equipment.
